by Tana Reiff (Author)
Writing Me! A first writing course for adults by Tana Reiff is a great way to ease into writing and build confidence, for those preparing for the GED(R) essay or just wanting to write. The course is based on the premise that good writing is a result of having something to say and saying it well, and that we write best about what we know best. First used with the author's students, with remarkable results, Writing Me! was originally published by New Readers Press and now has been significantly revised and republished by the author herself. The workbook progresses through simple activities (life roles, likes and dislikes, personality, memories, goals, etc.) applied to developing skills in sound basic writing practices, interspersed with free journaling. Self-Evaluation and Reader's Evaluation Checklists provide feedback for the more structured writing activities. Use of pen and paper rather than keyboard is based on research indicating that writing by hand engages more areas of the brain and increases learning. This new edition correlates closely with GED(R) essay scoring. Writing Me! works well in a classroom or one-on-one tutoring setting, or as an independent pursuit. Reading level: middle grades, but can be attacked from each individual's starting point. For native or non-native English-language speakers. 48 pp.
