Author Biography

In the 1990s, Trinidadian-born writer Petra E. Lewis experienced three acts of violence-the final one being the murder of a teen. This birthed a question: Why is it so easy for Black and Brown young men to kill each other-and where did this mindset come from? This inspired Lewis' Columbia MFA fiction thesis, which later became The Sons and Daughters of Ham trilogy. It was the start of a literary odyssey. Cut to summer 2014: Post-MFA, after being represented by two high-powered literary agents, including one at ICM, and an extended career pit stop on Wall Street, Lewis finally decided to self-publish her novel trilogy, The Sons and Daughters of Ham.
