He is author of two volumes of short stories and seven novels. His 2001 novel, \u003ci\u003eThe National Tree\u003c\/i\u003e, was adapted for television and aired on the Hallmark channel in November 2009. His short story, \u003ci\u003eCordials, \u003c\/i\u003e won the 1996 Pushcart Prize, followed the next year by \u003ci\u003eLow Tide in the Desert: Nevada Stories, \u003c\/i\u003e which won the Western Heritage Award for Best Short Story.
