During the First World War (1914-1918) he joined the British Army and became a Lieutenant. At the end of World War I he read an ad in the newspaper asking for an English teacher to join a school in La Habana, Cuba, and because he knew how agreeable was the climate of Cuba, he decided to apply. He find an English teaching position at the prestigious Jesuit Colegio de Bel n, La Habana, Cuba, where he taught for many years until his retirement. He also taught the language at his \"Thomas Lismore English Academy\" located on 23rd and I Street in the section of El Vedado where he also resided.After the Cuban Revolution in 1959 Thomas came to reside as an exiled citizen in Miami, Florida, United States.Thomas Lismore then wrote the popular Welcome to English.
