DIRECT ACTION * Daniel Hunter recently pioneered a direct action campaign that halted a politically-connected $650-million casino project. His recently released book -- Strategy and Soul -- is a first-hand report of that campaign's strategic twists and turns. Most of his work has been involved in leading organized campaigns, as opposed to one-time actions, including running campaigns against the USA PATRIOT Act, working to build more affordable housing in Philadelphia, and fighting for public sector employees with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. TRAINER * His main work is as a Training Elder with Training for Change, where Daniel Hunter focuses on long-term strategy development and training trainers in popular education. He has trained strategy for democratization with ethnic minorities in Burma/Myanmar, pastors in Sierra Leone, independence activists in Northeast India, environmentalists in Australia and Indonesian religious leaders, and more. He is sought after nationally and internationally for his work with Training for Change's experiential methodology, that builds on wisdom from within the ground, building on past successes and challenging groups on their limiting beliefs. STRATEGIST * He regularly is hired to help coach and provide technical assistance to campaigns. The breadth of his work is wide -- a recent month included trainings with union locals on organizing and economic class, Algonquins on direct action strategy, a capstone weekend of a semester-long intensive for Philadelphia community organizers, Quakers on building campaigns to stop mountaintop removal, and leaders learning how to integrate direct action strategy into climate change.
