During his professional activities and after his retirement he has been a keen observer of world affairs. He is convinced that further deterioration of the global environment can be prevented only if humanity stops the growth of the world economy and the world population. Kamphorst started to write down his thoughts from June to December 2008, during a period in which several global crises deepened or emerged, namely a climatic change, a deterioration of the natural environment, and shortages of energy, food, water, and minerals. The emergence of financial and economic crises in the last third of 2008, which led to a decrease in global production and consumption, temporarily overshadowed the shortages of basic commodities. His comments on these developments are presented in 25 chapters in part I of the book. In part II of the book, the author has added six postscripts to the contents of part I, written in July 2009. This part ends with proposals for a new world society based on morality.

Author Biography

Arie Kamphorst studied soil science in the Agricultural University at Wageningen in the Netherlands. The author returned to the Netherlands in 1972 and became a lecturer and researcher in applied soil physics and soil chemistry in the Agricultural University at Wageningen. His specialisations were soil erosion, soil salinisation, soil reclaimation and soil ecology. He lectured in these applied subjects to Dutch students as well as to an international MSc-course for foreign students from different parts of the world. At home, the author practised ecological methods in his ornamental garden, kitchen garden and wild flower garden. After his retirement from the university, he continued to give lectures and excursions on ecological gardening for many gardening clubs in the Netherlands.

Number of Pages: 90

Dimensions: 0.19 x 7.99 x 5.24 IN

Publication Date: December 31, 2009
