Author Biography
For the past 25 years, Dr. Frankie Wood-Black has been in the petrochemical and refining industries, but has now turned her energies toward her true passion, providing science education. She is a member of the American Chemical Society as well as several other scientific societies. But, she has focused her volunteer time toward providing science related resources and materials to schools, parents, and the general public. She has been active with National Chemistry Week, science in the classroom, and chemical health and safety. As the mother of two children with college degrees, both home schooled through high school, Dr. Wood-Black understands the need for specific hands on curricula for the home school student and parents. She has been through the struggle of finding the right text for the student's learning style, finding the supplies and materials, and the need for documentation of the learning. Thus, her materials are designed not only for the student but also for the one that will be presenting the material. Frankie received her degree in physics from Oklahoma State University, has an MBA, and is a Registered Environmental Manager. She has seen the public school system through the eyes of a military child, 13 different schools from kindergarten through senior in high school and understands the current education complexities. She has been working with universities, junior colleges, learning centers, and other educational institutions to understand the challenges associated with the new common core requirements. And, she has mentored several new college graduates as they have transitioned from the education system into the working world.
