Her first poetry collection, \u003ci\u003eHold Like Owls\u003c\/i\u003e (University of South Carolina Press), won the 2011 South Carolina Poetry Book Prize judged by National Book Award winner Nikky Finney. Koets's essays and poems have recently appeared in \u003ci\u003eCreative Nonfiction\u003c\/i\u003e, \u003ci\u003eIndiana Review\u003c\/i\u003e, \u003ci\u003eThe Los Angeles Review\u003c\/i\u003e, and \u003ci\u003ePortland Review\u003c\/i\u003e. She has an MFA in creative writing from the University of South Carolina and a PhD in literature and creative writing from the University of Cincinnati.
