Payment Deferred is a crime novel by C.S. Forester. It tells about William Marble, a bank clerk living in south London with a wife, Annie, and two teenage children. William suffers financial crisis and suddenly gets visited by a rich orphaned nephew, who's just inherited a large sum of money. A cruel plot comes to his mind and eventually he gets very rich, although he now lives under the burden of a hard crime. The rich life, new love affairs and better education for children don't bring him happiness. The dark fate follows him everywhere and he lives in fear that it will finally catch up with him.
