by Philip Soletsky (Author)
Dunboro, New Hampshire volunteer firefighter, Jack Fallon, is wrestling with his feelings about his wife carrying the child of a man who attacked her and tried to kill him, even as Jack is coming to realize that he may be addicted to the painkillers prescribed to help him recover from his latest injuries. Then an unforecasted blizzard results in a full night of emergency calls, and a festive gift box containing a sinister object is delivered to the front porch of Rachael Woods, Jack's friend, fellow firefighter, and previous partner in a one-night affair. As he and Rachael investigate the deepening mystery of the box and Jack becomes increasingly strung out on pills and lack of sleep, it looks like it all may add up to more than he can handle.
