Most of the aircrew perished after their B-25 was hit, but luckily Lang survived and landed in the Mediterranean Sea, his burns soothed by the cool waters. SGT Lang spent months in Italian and German hospitals, eventually arriving at Stalag VII-A. Author Biography
James Henry Lang was born in San Francisco, Calif., on December 21, 1921. His mother stemmed from pioneer stock that pre-dated the Revolutionary War and even reached back to one member who journeyed to the New World aboard the Mayflower. His father, together with his entire family, had emigrated from Memel, Germany, at the turn of the century, just as his father came of draft age, settling in the San Francisco area.
