Of the modern Presidents, none have lived as many years after leaving the White House as Jimmy Carter. Reaching to the age of 100 years old on October 1, 2024, few thought the aging President would survive for many more weeks. He told his family he wanted to live long enough to vote for Kamala Harris for President. And, indeed, he did. While his Presidency had some tremendous accomplishments, the Iranian Crisis and the failure of the economy killed his chances at re-election and sent him back to Plains. But he wasn't finished contributing to the world. Before his retirement had ended, Jimmy Carter had gained the admiration and gratitude of a world that he had made a better place for so many.
