Through six historical and thematic case studies the chapters examine the historical evolution of multiple modernities within Islam. The book argues that we can observe the rise and spread of a relatively hegemonic idea according to which the relation to Islamic traditions bestows projects of Muslim modernities with cultural authenticity. He was a fellow at the University of Victoria, the Institute for Advanced Studies in Princeton, the International Islamic University Malaysia, the National University of Singapore, the University of Leipzig and the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich.
