He was a member of the hand trauma committee of the FESSH. Most of his lectures and publications were devoted to hand surgery. Many residents were trained in the domain of hand surgery. Together with his colleagues the largest hand centre of the Netherlands in the Isala clinics, Zwolle was developed. It received formal recognition as a hand trauma centre from the FESSH council. During yearly visits to developing countries one of the goals was treating congenital malformations of the hand.
