by David Navarria (Author)
The future is a broken and devastated place. A sister-and-brother team of scientists inherited an instrument capable of viewing the past. Together, they had worked on it for years until they could see an image of the future as well. What they observed so startled them that they allowed the U.S. Government to access it. Without help, the leader, Manhig, is about to fall to the wicked, leaving no balance between good and evil. Wickedness is poised to completely control the future.
The United States Army sends its best-qualified commando, Captain Augustine 'Gus' Tadlock, over two hundred years into that devastated future. His mission is to find Manhig and evaluate him to determine whether he is righteous, as they believe. If he is, then Gus can begin helping him with the full support of the U.S. military of 2026AD.
However, Augustine is placed nowhere near the Manhig, and instead, finds himself close to wickedness. While gathering information about Manhig's whereabouts, Augustine's first glimpse of the future is of a brutal place. The wicked lead unbridled, licentious lifestyles. Among other unholy things, human slavery exists- people are bought and sold like animals. Augustine eventually finds the location of Manhig. However, at the same time, the good-hearted Augustine comes upon and frees a young slave girl, Gloria. Not knowing what to do with her, he takes her back to his campsite. There, he attempts to heal her repressed trauma of slavery before they can set out to find Manhig.
The book Gloria is a well-written romance novel that contrasts a broken future world with customs completely different from ours today. It's a beautiful and unique love story that skips from 2026 to over two centuries in the future. It is a novel about a young couple striving to survive in a broken world, while the young woman pursues her dream of becoming a doctor.
Gloria is, without a doubt, the favorite book I've ever written. I had already created a futuristic world for my last novel, Ultimum Judicium: The Last Judgment, and that was a terrifying place-a world that lost its innocence long before. Gloria is the prequel to that story. I found it to be a beautiful experience writing about an awkward teenage girl and describing her transformation over the years. Many of my readers accuse me of putting twists into most of my books, and with Gloria, I am certainly guilty. They felt that the characters in this book are well-defined and pop off the pages. But Gloria herself is unique, and by far the most lovable of them all.
More than halfway through the book, a shocking event occurs that reveals the identity of a main character. That twist sends the storyline spinning into a completely different direction. The novel Gloria offers well-developed characters with many other twists and turns. It is a truly eventful experience for an adult reading audience.
