Draeger House is a coming-of-age story told by Rafer Dorfman of moving into a house with the descendants, living and dead, of Willa and Boris Draeger. He recounts his meeting the house's living occupants--Kaz, Corrine, and Les--then the spirits of their deceased family members going back four generations. The patriarch, Boris Draeger, is a malevolent presence who tests Rafer with a flurry of paranormal mayhem. The other spirits come to his aid and he's able to find his place in the house. Kaz reveals that she, Corrine, and Les are psychics with the power to see spirits and that they chose Rafer because, though he wasn't aware of it, he too has ESP. The story flashes back to 1920 when Boris marries Willa and begins abusing her. It's a wry comedic tale that develops interesting characters and doesn't take itself too seriously.
