by Beth Sansbury (Author)
This book recounts the history of Colvin Run Mill in Fairfax County, Virginia. The land was once owned by George Washington but he sold it before he could build a mill. William Sheppard built the mill between 1802 and 1811, and it was subsequently owned by Philip Carper, John Powell, Addison Millard and Bernard Bailey before being bought by Fairfax County Park Authority in 1965. Restoring it was complex and expensive, and it is now open to the public and once again grinds grain into flour on some week-ends.
