Author has given us a gift of Christmas stories told about, or through the eyes of, Latvian immigrants to the U.S. It's delightful to learn the customs of this small Baltic state, which has so often been overshadowed and/or invaded by larger countries. The fictionalized stories are entertaining and suitable to read aloud to children as well as to give to middle-grade readers.
Six Christmas stories about Latvian children. Based on my own experience, anecdotes from my mother, and my imagination. It comes straight from the heart of an author who spent the first few years of her life in a Displaced Persons camp, emigrated to America, and as an adult was able to visit Latvia and get to know aunts, uncles, and cousins who had not been able to escape. I came away with a new appreciation of how fortunate we are to live in the USA with all its struggles. So will you.
