A detailed and well illustrated of the communities of Ward 11 of Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana. These communities were built along the rich agricultural soils of Bayou des Glaises where plantations thrived before the Civil War and where farming is still the main economy. Hundreds of historic photos and histories of the communities of Long Bridge, Hamburg, Voorhies, Lemoine Lane, Borodino, and Tilden. Actual rare never before published images of the over 1000 foot long wooden bridge which gave the Long Bridge community its name.
Author Biography
Carlos Mayeux, Jr. and Randy DeCuir have teamed up to bring this fascinating history together. The two first cousins have enjoyed a lifetime of historic preservation as a past time. Mayeux is an historian and educator of Avoyelles Parish. A retired school administrator, he now sits on the Avoyelles Parish School Board. His passion has been in preservation of Avoyelles Parish history and culture. He has been president of the parish historical society, La Commission des Avoyelles, for about 30 years, and is president of the Avoyelles Commission of Tourism. He sits on serves on several other volunteer boards. DeCuir is a long time publisher of local newspapers and books. He was a founding officer of La Commission des Avoyelles, along with Mayeux, and also serves on various volunteer boards and organizations.
