LOUISE BEDFORD, AUTHOR OF THE SECRET OF CANDLESTICK CHARTING AND THE SECRET OF WRITING OPTIONS
With 20,000 copies sold THE ART OF TRADING is firmly established as one of the leading books on trading the financial markets published in Australia. Although Chris Tate's philosophy of trading is timeless, there have been changes in the marketplace and in the technology used to monitor and trade the markets since the book was first published. This fully revised and updated 2nd Edition takes all these changes into account.
At one time investors bought shares for the long term. Now more and more are buying and selling on a regular basis and an increasing number are trading full-time. What sort of job is private trading? It could be described as a craft. There is definitely a high level of skill involved, and -- like all skills -- the skill of trading may be practised, refined and mastered. Trading also requires a certain way of thinking and much has been written about the psychology of trading. However, above all Chris Tate believes that trading is an art -- a combination of skill, talent, imagination, discipline and, possibly, innate ability.
One reason for the enormous success of Chris Tate as a trader, speaker and writer on the subject is that he does not follow the crowd. He opens the book with discussion on the psychology of trading and risk and money management, which is not what you might traditionally expect. The explanation of chart patterns and indicators comes towards the end. Always positive, he describes losses as "part of the apprenticeship" because wise traders will always learn from their mistakes.
