by Blair Hamelink (Author)
A Blue Deluge is a book of temperances, exploring a variety of moods and acting as a requiem for some. This book takes readers to Dunedin, New Zealand, where the manic swells that swell along the beaches of St. Kilda and St. Clair, swell upon the page as well. And where commemorated poet, Robbie Burns, bears witness to Dunedin's sorry dawdlers. In his attempt to uncover the correlation between mind and city, Blair recalibrates the tempos of nostalgia without being dismissive of the fact that the speaker of his poems consequently came from a long line of van Gogh's and Dionysus's. This work comes in verse, prose, sonnet, monodrama, and a thinkpiece from Dunedin's own "Albatross Laureate," whose keen observation is that a troubling tidal shift is near. A Blue Deluge is suggestive of movement, from the scherzo to the adagio, and pays tribute to the tumultuous poets, to the Pacific Ocean, and the city of Dunedin.
