by Michael E. C. Gery (Author)
Cro surfs through life with good intentions, but not always with good form. His many attempts to follow the straight and narrow sometimes succeed, but more often he finds himself riding waves that rise and fall unpredictably. Even so, he allows surfing to guide him, for better or worse. He tells us a tale of misunderstanding, lost love and wild abandon that leads to a place of love and "the peace that passes all understanding." The characters who ride with Cro are waiters and cooks, surfers and beach bunnies, artists and lawyers, in-laws and outlaws, and the loves of his life. They show up in Virginia's Tidewater and North Carolina's Outer Banks, with trips to Ocean City and Annapolis, Santa Cruz and San Francisco, British Virgin Islands and the remote Carolina coast. Along the way there's plenty of music, plus poetry, parties, prayers, pointless chases, trusty station wagons, highs, lows and discussions of life. It's all about paddling out and surfing in, with all the ecstasy and wipe-outs in between.
