This little work is intended to be neither a textbook nor a devotional commentary, but has been written as a scriptural exposition, to assist, as far as may be, those who would 'pray with the understanding.' Thoughtful prayer is not a contradiction in terms, nor does meditation necessarily involve the suspension of our reasoning faculty.
