Author Biography
David Waugh is Professor of Education at Durham University where he also teaches primary English. He is a former deputy head teacher, who was Head of the Education Department at the University of Hull from 2005 to 2008, and was Regional Adviser for ITT for the National Strategies.
Kate Allott is a lecturer in primary English at York St John University. She has also worked as a literacy consultant for North Yorkshire County Council, and as a regional adviser for the National Strategies.
Eve English, a former head teacher, is a lecturer in English on the PGCE (Primary) and BA (QTS) courses at Durham University. She has published extensively on primary English.
Rosemary Waugh is a linguist and former English, French, Latin and classics teacher at four schools. She has a particular interest in the history and development of grammar and etymology, and in their evolution.
Elizabeth Bulmer taught English Literature and Linguistics, at various levels, for several years. She took a particular interest in child language acquisition, accent and dialect and gender differences in conversational behaviour.
