Sources appropriate to the background on the origins and consequences of the war, related events leading up to the battle, and associated aspects of the battle are included as well. First, there is a narrative section divided into logical chapters and, second, an annotated bibliography in which more than 500 entries are provided. These are given, in most instances, in alphabetical order by author's last name. The narrative portion describes, evaluates, assesses, qualifies, and integrates all of the entries into a whole, making the battle more understandable from British, German, and other perspectives.
