Author Biography

Author of Smeared Eyeliner & Faded Lipstick poetry collection. She was the feature article in the April 2010 issue of Upgrade Magazine, a guest on the Kenny Anderson Radio Show, featured in Fearless Magazine: A Fearless Journey, author of "A Woman Among the Titles" for Black and Married with Kids blog, and the guest speaker at the University of Alabama's candlelight vigil honoring Domestic Violence Awareness Month. As a young child she was a witness to Domestic Violence in the home and those are images that stuck with her well into college. She was silent in her confusion and often times felt alone in her experience. From having extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and families she recognized that it is naïve to think that there aren't other children and young adults in the same shoes that she once was in. Writing poetry was an outlet for Caneeka in the midst of chaos. It was what kept her focused on doing well in school and it gave her a sense of peace in her spirit. Helping children who witness Domestic Violence is the platform for the book in which a fundraiser has been created to help those in need. When she's not writing poetry or sending out inspirational emails of encouragement, she enjoys mentoring young women, traveling, loving on her sons Scott III and Cole, spending time with her husband Scott, her family, and friends, and reading. She received her Bachelor of Science in Human Development with a concentration in Family Studies and a minor in Psychology from the University of Alabama and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.
