by Kelly McMichael (Author)
A revised and updated version of Kelly McMichael's 2001 dissertation, Remember our Southland explores the ways that the Texas United Daughters of the Confederacy attempted to alter society's memory of the Civil War. The UDC engaged in several activities, including hosting Confederate reunions, erecting monuments to the Confederacy, building a home for indigent Confederate women, educating children, and participating in war-work during the Spanish-American War, World War I, and World War II. McMichael discusses all of these activities, plus includes a socio-economic profile of the Texas UDC women and situates the organization in the historiography of the Lost Cause.
