by Zents Sowunmi (Author)
Despite the huge human and natural resources, Ogun State which was created in 1976 by the Government of General Muritala Mohammed lagged behind the neighboring Lagos state in all areas of human and material development, unmet expectations of the people, the merger of the Egba and Ijebu the two powerful provinces in the South West of Nigeria by Irekefe Commission which recommended additional seven new states for the country was considered a miscalculation, or unequally yoke by those with the history of the two powerful provinces in the state, the unification marked the re-opening of the suspended wars between the Egba and Ijebu during and after the defeat of defunct Oyo Empire long before the advent of British Colonization of Nigeria between 1865-1960. Despite the reservoir of Nigeria's first cream of educated class, the new state could not face the challenges of fast tracking development with intra ethnic wars and words of policies of frustration and manipulation. What are the factors preventing the state from living to the dreams of the people of the State? This book is from a critic, written purely for academic exercises, and a detailed analysis of hidden historical events that are preventing development of the state by history could be classified the first to be exposed to western civilization in Nigeria and also offer solutions. Ogun State: Policy of Manipulation is a must for all students of history and politics of Ogun State, Yoruba, Nigeria and Africa from 1976 to 2011, most importantly this book is a better material for Black History.
