Miles of scenic farmland were \u003cbr\u003ecleared and cultivated. \u003cbr\u003eThen, in the mid-1800s, rich coal veins were found \u003cbr\u003ebeneath the Cambrian hills. As word of this discovery \u003cbr\u003espread, mines opened throughout the region. Within a \u003cbr\u003eshort time, immigrants from far and near streamed into \u003cbr\u003ethe region to work in the mines. Soon, rail lines were \u003cbr\u003econstructed to serve the coal fields.
