Regrettably, the three are seen as acceptable behavior by many!\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI cannot lie; hate, distrust, and uncertainty have infiltrated my poetry. But, at the close of 2023, I had made a conscious decision for my writing going forward to contain more joy because containing only joy was neither a reality nor an option!\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eJOY! Another Book of Poetry\u003c\/b\u003e was written with a commitment to pursue and find \u003cb\u003eJOY!\u003c\/b\u003e in every facet of my life. While I may not be able to affect \u003cb\u003eJOY\u003c\/b\u003e into others' lives, I know I have control to affect \u003cb\u003eJOY\u003c\/b\u003e into my own.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWhen I started composing poems for this book, I resolved ...\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eto move forward with words of positivity!\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eto resist the temptation of negativity in my thoughts and in my deeds!\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eto surround myself with positive people!\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eto find joy and honor the truth!\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eto find joy and make lemonade out of lemons even in the most negative of situations!\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eto make decisions based on my thoughts and research, not the thoughts and research of others!\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eto not allow others to steal or derail my joy!\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eto be a better person in this year of my celebrating 70 revolutions around the sun!\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe inclusion of \u003ci\u003eINSPIRATIONS \u003c\/i\u003eis an outcome of my reading \"THE \u003cb\u003e1619\u003c\/b\u003e PROJECT.\" For those unfamiliar with \u003cb\u003e1619\u003c\/b\u003e, each chapter is preceded by a poem or work of fiction which hints at the succeeding historical and fact-filled text. I liked the concept and decided to incorporate \u003ci\u003eINSPIRATIONS\u003c\/i\u003e, which provide insight into the thoughts and observations which led me to writing the subsequent poems.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThose familiar with my writing, know I consider my poems and books to be my literary children. Like most loving and caring parents, I occasionally \"correct\" or \u003ci\u003eedit\u003c\/i\u003e them. \u003cb\u003eI AM HERE BECAUSE ...\u003c\/b\u003e was first written in 2008 as a \u003cb\u003e√\u003c\/b\u003e off of my bucket list. It was intended to be an illustrated historical fiction about slavery for young children. Seven-years later, the poem - still unpublished - was edited for older readers and published, without illustrations, in my fourth literary child, \"KEEPING IT REAL!\" (c)2015.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAfter \"speed-dating\" with a literary agent at the inaugural \u003ci\u003eWomen \u0026amp; Words \u003c\/i\u003e(March 2024) event held at New York's Penguin\/RandomHouse\/\u003ci\u003eStoreHouse in a Box\u003c\/i\u003e, \u003cb\u003eI AM HERE BECAUSE ...\u003c\/b\u003e was edited \u003ci\u003eagain\u003c\/i\u003e for teen and adult readers.
