This is a textbook for teaching health and physical education in elementary schools. It is written for both classroom teachers and physical education specialists. Its major theme is that of creating a concerted effort to improve the everyday activity levels and nutritional practices of the entire school. Author Biography
Scott Melville was born and raised in Western Pennsylvania. He majored in Health and Physical Education at Slippery Rock State College, played on the baseball and basketball teams, and graduated in 1969. After a few years as an elementary physical education teacher in the public schools he began his graduate studies, eventually earning a Ph.D. in Motor Learning from the University of Iowa in 1976. Following community college and small college teaching and coaching experiences he moved to Spokane and began his career at Eastern Washington University in 1980. His primary teaching assignments have been Elementary Health and Physical Education Methods, Motor Learning, and Coaching Education. His chief hobbies are reading (non-fiction and poetic writings), painting (watercolors and egg-tempera) and physical activities (running, swimming, bicycling), He lives happily with his wife Julie (a school teacher) in Spokane.
