His several chapbooks are the result of national competitions, most recently The Function of Sadness (Slipstream Press Award, 2015). He also is the editor of Every River on Earth: Writing from Appalachian Ohio (Ohio University Press, 2015). He has taught creative writing and literature at various universities, schools, and workshops. His wife, Carole Carpathios, is a graphic designer and freelance illustrator\/artist.
