by Garry Holland (Author)
Is there a hole in your life? Is it shaped like the Eurovision Song Contest? Or is Eurovision already the highlight of your year - like Christmas but without the unwelcome visitors? Whether you're a Eurovision veteran or virgin, this book explains how to maximise the sheer magnificence of this unique event, explores the trials of being a fan and relives some key contests from the past: when ABBA won, when the UK plunged into the 'nul points' abyss, when a German lady pretended to be a jukebox, when much-mocked Norway finally came good and many more. From Frizzle Sizzle to Fud Leclerc, it's a fan's-eye view of the great, the good, the bad and the Swiss. Part celebration, part confession, part survival toolkit, 'Eurovision: A Funny Kind of Euphoria' puts every key aspect of Eurovision firmly in the spotlight: the triumphs, the traumas and, of course, the travesties. NOTE: THIS IS THE UPDATED 2017 VERSION.
Author Biography
Garry Holland is a freelance writer - and an unapologetic fan of the Eurovision Song Contest. He chats about Eurovision on national, local and community radio. Even though (outrageously!) he wasn't asked any questions about Eurovision, he was a semi-finalist in the 2017 series of BBC Radio 4's music quiz 'Counterpoint' and once won a splendid digital radio on Ken Bruce's 'Popmaster' quiz on BBC Radio 2. He's currently preparing his third Eurovision book - a comic novel - for publication in January 2018. Garry lives in Oxfordshire, UK, with his wife, daughter and son. He's sort of on twitter a bit but not much: @GarryHolland2
