by Niall Allsop (Author)
From an early age, Belfast-born Niall Allsop has been an indefatigable traveller, though his definition of 'travel' isn't just about going from A to B. His first foray into the world of independent travel was as a truant. Until he was found out, of course.
Undaunted, this urge to explore new horizons persisted and, as a young teen, he was regularly travelling to and from Dublin in search of the craic.
Five years later and he spent almost three months working in Germany where he shared a bit of craic with a Limerick lad. He had left Belfast as a teenager but returned to Belfast that September as a young adult. Another five years on, as a newly-qualified teacher, he left Belfast for good.
Chasing the Craic is part travelogue, part autobiography. The tongue-in-cheek, foot-in-mouth tales of Niall's travelling encounters in Europe and the United States are peppered with more biographical encounters at times when travelling and family considerations clashed. Yet they are all part of the same story as they display the same unrelenting search for the more irreverent side of life whenever and wherever it raises its beckoning head.
Chasing the Craic is a largely chronological compendium of tales and anecdotes, adventures and misadventures, reflections and observations, of someone predisposed to assume that the people he encounters, wherever it might be, are more likely to be open and generous if you share a bit of the craic with them.
