Introvert's Guide to Being Social, written by Stefan Cain who's a self-professed introvert is an easy-to-read, practical guide on how introverts can learn to better understand themselves and improve their communication and networking skills. Beginning with an analysis of what it actually means to be an introvert or extrovert (from a scientific, psychological perspective), Stefan Cain explains what makes someone an introvert or extrovert and how that particular trait manifests itself in everyday life. The second half of the book is devoted to laying out a game plan for introverts in regards to social situations, focusing particularly on those that occur within the workplace or professional sphere. Inside Introvert's Guide to Being Social, you'll learn how to prepare yourself for social situations, as well as tips, tricks, strategies, exercises, and information on effective communication. If you've ever found yourself frozen in conversation, sweating nervously at a party, dreading office events, and making up bizarre excuses in order to get out of social occasions, then this book is for you.
Author Biography
Stefan Cain is a dog lover, father of three, and a therapist, specializing in social skills and anxiety. As an introvert himself, he knows firsthand the types of struggles and issues that sociability can cause. He grew up as the shy, quiet kid with very few friends (a constant source of worry for his mother) and that trend, he says, probably would have continued through college and perhaps his entire life, if he had not met his future wife, Katie, who was a psychology major at the university he attended. It was she who first taught him about personality types, coping skills, and many of the other topics covered in this book. The result? He switched majors, proposed to Katie, and, eventually, started his own practice aimed at helping others deal with the same struggles he once faced. Stefan Cain has spent the majority of his working career in numerous academic research positions, working on a wealth of psychological, societal and cultural topics. His research work and adept studies have been used to form the backbone of many popular titles available today, providing him with the experience and hunger to delve deeper into some avenues of thought. Alongside his serious academic work, Stefan has been published in a number of prominent publications; filing news reports, features and insightful opinion pieces on myriad topics throughout his career.
