She organized the Ladies' Reading Club of Houston in 1885 and was instrumental in founding other literary clubs years before the organization of the Texas Federation. \u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e Her contributions to Texas history appeared in many newspapers and in the \u003ci\u003eSouthwestern Historical Quarterly\u003c\/i\u003e.
