by Monroe Township Historians (Author), Lawrence Knorr (Foreword by)
Named for President James Monroe as he concluded his second term, Monroe Township celebrated 200 years of history since its founding in 1825. The township was previously the western portion of the former Allen Township in Cumberland County, formed in 1766, now split into Monroe, Upper Allen, and Lower Allen. The village of Churchtown, also known as Allen, is the hub of the township. Local historians have written various contributions over the years. This volume is a compilation of several prior books and papers, edited and revised.
