I recommend you walk into this book with a suspension of reality. What Adeline endures is not fiction-there are undoubtedly people that have and are currently experiencing something similar. However, it's important to keep in mind this is a work of fiction. Everyone deals with trauma differently and there's no "correct" way to survive and eventually thrive. Some people (like myself) can make a lot of questionable choices and spend years in therapy. Others are lucky enough to find a support system that can be just as effective. The most vital thing in this long life is to find a way that works for you. While Adeline may have needed years of therapy in some opinions, it doesn't necessarily make for good reading.
