by Desmond Sherlock (Author)
When all that we are using is "lets agree to disagree" or "if it's too hot in the kitchen..", it is time for a simple and proactive alternative for moderating our own disputes. Based on six rules of engagement, Rethink Perfect creates a COMMON & SANE space for us to share real thoughts, feelings & our latest concepts. Like the protocols and Black Box of an airplane, Rethink Perfect allows us to monitor our conversations before, during and after to reduce the frequency and magnitude of our inevitable disputes.
Author Biography
If you are looking for a popular all-round book on changing your behaviour and written by experts, I recommend Crucial Conversations. Des Sherlock's book, Rethink Perfect, although written along similar lines, was not written by an expert or a qualified academic. Des was trained as a product designer and has approached this subject from his own experience, and in a more visual and simpler perspective. He has spent the last 26 years discovering and designing the 6 rules of engagement that forms the basis of Rethink Perfect and that fundamentally need to be agreed to before engaging in real conversations. Des believes that design is as much about creating a "sane space" for conversing as it is to make a better egg slicer. He is proposing Rethink Perfect as a possible solution to moderate our own disputes and is looking to field test Rethink Perfect in his own personal relationship someday.
