Author Biography
Frequently moving throughout Oregon as a child, Marcia Shaver developed an outgoing personality, an appreciation for different environments and the ability to feel comfortable in any situation-the perfect background for traveling and capturing new landscapes. Her family spent every vacation and summer on their ranches in northeastern Oregon, tending to farm activities, working the cattle, and riding the wide-open range. As a result, the land is often the subject of Marcia's art. Whether she's using pen and ink, watercolor, acrylic, or oil, her bold use of color reflects her cheerful and upbeat nature. Regardless of the medium, her strong sense of the graphic keeps her art grounded. Her unique interpretive application brings out a spiritual connection that is also present in her writing. In recent years, Marcia has walked 2500 miles on 4 different routes of the Camino de Santiago in Spain, France, and Portugal with sketchbook and camera in hand. She has spent several years painting the imagery encountered along the way. Now everyone has access to her deep and personal discovery along the Camino, in her book "The Artist's Journey: the Perfumed Pilgrim Tackles the Camino de Santiago". It contains the 57 pen and ink drawings she created while on the Camino in Spain. Marcia married her husband, Craig Shaver, when she when she was eighteen. They have a son, Justin, and live in Redmond, Washington. Marcia earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Oregon in art education, with masters and travel studies in Europe and Asia. More recently she attended the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle, graduating from the landscape atelier immersion program. She taught art at the high school level and now instructs adults within the art community. Her prints and original paintings are featured in private and corporate collections internationally.
